Iran's idiotic President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad recenly called the Nazi Holocaust a "myth" and said Europe, the U.S. and Canada should use their own land for a Jewish state.The West has "fabricated a myth under the name 'Massacre of the Jews,' and they hold it higher than God himself, religion itself and the prophets themselves,'' Iran's leader told thousands of supporters in the southeastern Sistan-Baluchestan province, in a speech aired live today on state television.
How ignorant and backward do the Iranian citizens have to be to elect this guy? I know he's pushed a populist message of job creation, housing and a focus on Iranian infrastructure -- but his recent messages are utterly irresponisble.
This dude makes our own president seem an emminently resonable Rhode's Scolar!

Mahmoud is only saying what a very large percentage of Arabs and Muslims, especially those in the Mideast, truly believe. I've ALWAYS stated that the fundemental question in the mideast is this: Does Israel have a right to exist? Unfortunatly, everyone has been focused on the "Palestinians'. Asking THAT question and getting an answer from the Arab/Muslim world would go a long way to resolution of the overall conflict. Currently, Hamas, Hezzbollah, the PA/PLO, Syria and certainly IRAN all answer that question with a very loud NO! (Yes, I know that Arafat claimed that the PLO/PA had removed that clause from their charter, unfortunatly, it never happened.. It's still there)
Mahmoud is playing to what he sees as his strength. Not inside of Iran but outside.

Holocaust deniers are a special level of evil. That said, I've never really bought the argument that Israel should be in the Middle East because "our fairytales say this is where we should be." I'd be perfectly happy surrendering, say, Mississippi to become the new Israel. Kill three birds in one stone -- (more) peace in the Middle East, a secure Jewish state, and no more Mississippi. Everyone wins!
